Mexico Nationals 2010 was just the beginning, the beginning of a story of a comeback to the sport I love with all my heart and soul; gymnastics. Competing and training in Mexico City with some of the best gymnasts of my country this past April, was a great experience and a good motivator to keep working hard, to set goals and feel that they are attainable. After getting off the plane in RDU I felt like a new chapter began. Rushing into the gym for an hour and a half of conditioning was just a small prove of the commitment and seriousness of my training. I want to and I will become an elite gymnast in the next 7 months, with a desire to one day put on a Mexican leotard and win a medal at an international meet. I am lucky to have a coach, and at the same time a friend, Scott Wilson, who believes in me 100%. We have become a strong team working together since October of 2009 and fighting to achieve our goals: for him to train his first elite gymnast and for me to become an elite gymnast. But beyond our individual goals we share a common objective and that is to grow together within the sport gymnastics - to live our passion, to fight for our dreams and to inspire others that may think that age is a barrier to the success of a gymnast and a coach.
This blog will narrate the story of our day to day successes and struggles as we move into the journey of making our dream a reality. It will include an account of the actions and emotions that go into becoming and training an elite gymnast. In our particular case, I 23 years old re-entering the gymnastics world only a year ago after a five year period of no gymnastics and Scott being 22 and a senior in college, time in all aspects, has become our greatest enemy, and so we will battle against it.
I know that this journey is not going to be easy and that most certainly there will be setbacks. However, all I want from this is the ability to look back at these years of my life and hold no regrets. Regardless of whether or not I achieve my goals, I want to be able to look back at my gymnastics career knowing that I didn’t give up, that I did all that I could and that I worked as a hard as humanly possible. I want to look back and smile at this journey and remember it as the best days of my life.
