Gymnastics - CrossFit

Well I guess I am having anxiety issues as to what will I do once this season is over. My friend Brittany has had the answer to that question since the first day I met her about two years ago, do crossfit. As an ex-collegiate gymnast she more than anybody understands how hard it is to let go of gymnastics, she joined crossfit. Crossfit is a sport that mixes up some boot camp style training, with weightlifting moves and some gymnastics moves all together in a format that allows for head to head competition. I have heard about crossfit in NC, because Mina, the girl from stick it (she does the handspring double front) was an NC gymnast and during my summers training with Scott she would come back and visit. She now does crossfit and talking to her made me realize that crossfit could be a good alternative for when I decided to stop training. Ironically, Brittany said the same thing and since she and her boyfriend own a gym, I decided to give it try! I joined crossfit at the end of July after my boards were over. I am only doing crossfit ~4 times a week at 6am, this has allowed me to take out the conditioning from my gymnastics training sessions and solely focus on routines and skills. Overall I am training similar hours but I spend less time at the gymnastics gym. Last week I had my first crossfit competition! It was very exciting. I have never experience an environment like that before. People were cheering really close and the fact that I could see my opponent right next to me was a surreal experience. In gymnastics I never watch the other competitors and even when I get to see one or two routines I have no way to real-time know if I am ahead of behind somebody. Crossfit was different, I could pace myself against the girl in front of me and I knew exactly how hard on how fast I had to run/row/lift in order to end up ahead. I loved it!! I guess I am sold. I will continue to do crossfit after this last gymnastics season.
