Wow, I can’t believe it! It has been more than a year since I have posted in here, time flies. I am almost done with my first year of medical school few! And although my training did not quite continued as planned I am still training. Why? Well I love this sport!
So quick recap. I left NC in June 2011, I joined Perfection Gymnastics to train with Enrique Trabanino but soon enough school caught up with me. The newness to my MD PhD career coupled with my lack of direction in gymnastics made me quit the gym for a couple of months. After getting a hang on medical school and missing the sport so much I returned to Perfection around October with the goal of competing JO level 10 on bars and vault. To my surprise (dah!) school did not get any easier and having quit gymnastics meant that I was out of shape, my skills were lost and so, I sow myself having to catch up in order to be competitive. Training twice sometimes three times a week for a couple of hours with little consistency made it almost impossible for me to catch up in time for competition season. After so many up and downs and knowing, based on prior experience, what happens when I “rush” into competition I finally decided to stepped down from trying to compete with Perfection, sometime in March.
Somewhere around December I joined the University of Cincinnati Gymnastics Club team. One day procrastinating on my studying a memory came to my mind: I remembered that back in 2007 when I was doing summer research at UC, I ran into somebody at the mall who randomly asked me if I did gymnastics (I may have been wearing a gymnastics t-shirt), we engaged in a conversation about gymnastics and he then mentioned to me that his friend had just started the UC gymnastics club, I said cool and went on with my life. Who would have known that I would end up in Cincinnati four years later. I went online and searched to see if the club still existed I found the website and a random email address, I emailed Nina McCune. When I joined, the team was training at a middle school auditorium in Mildford. I quickly asked Enrique if it would be possible for UC to train at Perfection he kindly offered the gym to UC and so I began training with UC at nights (easier on my schedule). The club became a member of the NAIGC, which meant that we started competing at the intercollegiate level. We went to Miami U, U. Illinoi and UNC and had a great first season!
As of now I have been focusing on gaining strength, flexibility and in general getting fit. My goal is to use the summer to get my skills back and have my level 10 routines ready before school start in September so that once my schedule starts getting busier I can just focus on maintaining and cleaning up my routines. I hope to be able compete at Mexico Nationals in 2013.
I will keep you all posted! Now back to anatomy :) (3 more weeks of torture!!!!!)
PS. Totally out of topic, I now got a puppy! his name is Toby (Tobias) thought you may appreciate a picture!
